Om Namah Sivaya
Dear Students and Friends,
This will be the first yoga workshop in 2017. I would like to start with core strengthening. You have heard this many times but many are still not properly engaging your core muscles. These muscles are so important for all poses from Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation) to standing postures. Over the years, I have seen too many students from yoga to dance who are not aware of their core. This had led to many unnecessary injuries which can be chronic; and also affecting dance and yoga teachers’ careers.
Strengthening the core will help correct bad posture by distributing weight evenly throughout the body. We need to feel the opposite energy lines (through the crown and soles of our feet) as we balance on both feet or one foot. Many students unconsciously sink into their lower spine when they are not able to maintain neutral ribcage placement (i.e, popping the front ribs and losing engagement of their transversus abdominis muscles to their spine ). This can put much stress on the lower back and knees…you might loose your balance or strain certain muscles just to keep your balance. If we can work the muscles from inside (core muscles) out (to your limbs or other parts of the body), we can hold our poses steadily and calmly. This will then lead to proper breathing and also leading to meditation when you are practising yoga.
I will explain more during this workshop. If you want to strengthen your practice and hold in your postures steadily and calmly, this workshop will be appropriate for you. You can email me to register for a mat space. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact me.
There will be another workshop on 19th February 2017. More details in early January.
